The 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in NYC
The mural club members were honored to win national gold metals for their Hawaiian Renaissance Mural in the Pākī breezeway located on the Kamehameha Kapalama campus. This is an important moment because it not only is a technically skilled work of art, an incredible group effort, but also brings Hawaiian culture into the eyes of the world through art.
Pākī Tunnel Mural 2019-2022
This tunnel mural in the Pākī breezeway located on the Kamehameha Kapalama campus features important figures and events from the Hawaiian Renaissance movement.
Various Murals in ʻAʻala Park
The Mural club applied for and received a grant to fund and create various public works of art. They partnered with Feast Hawaii, the trust for public land, and the city and county of Honolulu.
Keahiakahoe Canoe Club March 2022
The Mural club painted the club storage container for the Keahiakahoe Canoe Club at Sand Island.
Shinnyo-en Mural Message Boards May 2021
The students and Kumu Boz created several murals for the Shinnyo-en Floating Lantern Ceremony. Unlike previous years, due the the pandemic, the ceremony was unable to be held at Ala Moan beach park. Instead Kumu boz created two large geometric flower murals (See Murals) and the students created 8 vertical flower murals for participants to place messages of hope and remembrance for past loved ones.
Other Projects
The mural club went to Spalding House to pain fire murals for fire safety and awareness, painted signage for Lā Kūʻokoʻa (Hawaiian Independence Day) and made decorations for a drive by Christmas display during the Pandemic in Dec 2020.
